WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Penn College began North Eastern Athletic Conference softball play with doubleheader sweep of Morrisville College Saturday. The Wildcats improved to 8-8 overall, 2-0 NEAC with a 9-3 win and an 8-1 victory.
In game one,
The Mustangs jumped out to a 3-0 lead with a pair of runs in the first and one in the second inning. Penn College answered with five in the third, three in the fifth and one in the sixth.
Alyssa Gentile's single to center plated
Taylor Krow in the third to make it 3-1, before RBIs from
Kylie Shreiner and
Elizabeth Asher evened the contest.
Chelsea Gray brought in the fourth run with a single to center and a wild pitch made it 5-3.
Another wild pitch in the fifth brought in Gray and
Taylor Brooks and Gentile brought in a run each to give Penn College an 8-3 lead.
Laycee Clark's single to center in the sixth brought home the final run for Penn College.
Gentile and Clark led the Wildcats at the plate with three hits each, while Krow, Brooks, Shreiner, and
Kelsea Dangle each picked up a pair of hits.
Dangle pitched a complete-game and improved to 1-2. She allowed three runs (one earned) on eight hits, with seven strikeouts and two walks.
In game two,
Morrisville led 1-0 after the top of first inning but Gentile's sacrifice fly to center in the bottom of the frame evened the game at 1-1.
The Wildcats added three runs in the fourth, one in the fifth, and three in the sixth.
Tiana McCormick's single in the fourth made it 2-1, before two wild pitches brought in Clark and McCormick.
Danielle Bonis brought home Gray in the fifth with a single, while RBIs from Shreiner and Asher in the sixth made 7-1, and a wild pitch plated Shreiner.
Brooks finished with three hits for Penn College, while Krow and Clark picked up two hits each.
Morgan Heritage tossed a complete-game and improved to 4-3. She allowed one run on six hits, struck out 12 and walked two.
Penn College returns to action Tuesday at Cazenovia.
