MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – Penn College lost three straight baseball games Monday and Tuesday during its Spring Break trip in Myrtle Beach. The Wildcats fell to Chatham, 7-2, Catholic University, 9-4, and Mount Aloysius 12-10.
Penn College is 2-4 this season.
Against Chatham,
Brittan Kittle's single to left in the first gave Penn College and 1-0 lead before the Cougars tacked on a run in third and fifth, and five in the eighth.
Cole Hofmann's double to center in the ninth plated the Wildcats final run.
Nathaniel Lowe,
Cody Cline, and
Colton Riley each finished with two hits for Penn College.
Trevor Dolin took the loss after 6.1 innings on the mound. He scattered four hits, allowed two runs, struck out three, and walked five.
Against Catholic,
Riley's fielder's choice in the first put PCT ahead 1-0, before Catholic evened the game in the second inning. The Wildcats took the lead in the third following
Richard Lennon's single to right but the Cardinals added three in the fourth and five in the fifth to lead 9-2.
Alex Zelger tripled in the eighth to make it 9-3 and later scored on a passed ball for the game's final run.
Zelger finished with three hits for Penn College, while Lennon picked up a pair of hits.
Aaron Palmer fired four innings and took the loss. He allowed eight hits, four runs, struck out one, and walked three.
Against Mount Aloysius,
MAC jumped out to a 7-2 lead through five innings.
Ben Flicker and Zelger were responsible for the Wildcats' runs in the third and fourth. PCT erupted with six runs in the eighth inning to take an 8-7 lead. Cline, Flicker, Kittle each had RBIs, while Riley brought in two on a single.
Mount Aloysius answered with five in the ninth and Penn College managed two in the bottom of the ninth, on Zelger's two-run single.
Flicker and Kittle each picked up three hits, and Zelger and Riley each had a pair of hits.
Brandon Barnyak picked up the loss after relieving
Devon Sanders (3 IP, 5 R, 1 K, 1 BB) in the fourth. He gave up seven runs on nine hits, with two strikeouts and one walk.
