Baseball Gets Back in the Win Column with NEAC Sweep of Lancaster Bible
LANCASTER, PA: Penn College pounded out 28 hits and scored 28 runs in a Saturday afternoon doubleheader at Lancaster Bible. With the wins Penn College improves to 13-10 overall, 7-1 NEAC while Lancaster Bible falls to 14-11 and 4-5 in the NEAC.
In Game One: Freshman
Nathan Holt (3-1) picked up his second career complete game and third win of the season as he stymied a Chargers offense that had averaged nearly nine runs a game. Holt only allowed three hits and two runs as the Wildcats won 6-2. Despite walking six batters Holt was able to keep the Chargers batters at bay and limit any real damage after the first inning.
Trailing 2-1 in the top of the 3rd Penn College scored three runs to take a 4-2 lead that they would not relinquish.
Brittan Kittle laced an RBI single to right that scored
Cody Cline to tie the game.
Colton Riley put the Wildcats up for good as he launched his fifth home run of the season: a two-run shot to left center.
Penn College would add one more run in the top of the 4th and their final run on a
Ben Flicker home run to right center; his second of the season.
In Game Two: The Penn College lineup got hot as eleven different Wildcats notched hits as they scored a season high 22 runs.
Trailing 3-2 going into the top of the 5th the Wildcats bats got hot as they scored runs in five straight innings including seven in the top of the 9th to put the game out of reach.
Colton Riley had a game to remember as he finished 3-for-4 with three solo home runs giving him a team leading eight homers on the season. Flicker added his second home run of the day going 4-for-6 with five RBI's in the win.
Nick Perna capped off the game with a grand slam of his own in the top of the 9th inning for the Wildcats final runs.
Devon Sanders worked five innings earning his second win of the season as he allowed five hits and three runs while striking out two Chargers.
The Wildcats will look to stay hot from the plate as they head to the Nations Capital for a NEAC doubleheader vs Gallaudet tomorrow. First pitch is slated for noon.
