Wildcats Sweep Gallaudet; Improve to 9-1 in NEAC

WASHINGTON, D.C.- Penn College capped a perfect weekend with a doubleheader sweep against Gallaudet in North Eastern Athletic Conference action Sunday. The Wildcats improved to 9-1 NEAC, 15-10 overall, after a 7-6 win in game one, and a 12-2 victory in the nightcap.

In game one,
Penn College won a thrilling extra inning game as they rallied from an early 4-0 deficit to win 7-6 in 8-innings.

Gallaudet jumped on starter Cody Nelson early as they tagged him for four runs and seven hits in 1.2 innings of work.  Jed Blankenhorn was able to right the ship in relief as he limited the Bison to just one run on six hits in 3.1 innings of relief.

With two outs in the top of the second inning and trailing 4-0 Nathaniel Lowe laced an RBI single to center that scored Colton Riley.  Alex Zelger followed with a walk and Cody Cline walked with the bases loaded to earn an RBI as Cole Hofmann scored.

In the top of the fourth inning Penn College scored another run off a Bison pitcher's walk as Ben Flicker walked on a 3-1 count scoring Noah Esposito to make it 5-3 Gallaudet.

After Gallaudet tacked on another run in the bottom of the fourth Penn College would score two runs in the 5th to trim their deficit to 6-5.  With the bases loaded the Gallaudet pitching staff walked Lowe that scored Hofmann and Zelger hit a sac fly to left that scored Deric Ellerman.  Gallaudet walked 13 batters in the game.

Penn College tied the game in the top of the sixth on a Hofmann RBI single to center.  In the top of the eighth Penn College took their first lead of the game on an Esposito double down the left field line that plated Nick Perna.  Brandon Barnyak stranded a runner at second base in the bottom of the eighth to pick up his first win of the season.  Barnyak no-hit the Bison in three innings of work while allowing just three walks.

In game two,
Penn College opened up with an 8-1 lead through three innings.

Flicker brought home a pair of runs with a single to right in the first and Brittan Kittle knocked in Flick with a single to left to give PCT a 3-0 lead.

After the Bison added a run in the first, before the Wildcats added five in the third. Singles from Kittle and Ellerman plated a pair of runs, Esposito's sac fly scored one more, before Lowe hit a triple to center to bring in two more runs.

Gallaudet added another run in the fourth and Penn College brought in four in the eighth. Lowe's sacrifice to right made it 9-2, a fielder's choice scored Ellerman, Flicker singled to plate another run, and Colton Riley drew a bases loaded walk to bring in the final run.

Flicker finished with three hits for Penn College and Kittle picked up a pair.

Trevor Dolin tossed eight innings and improved to 2-2. He allowed two runs, on seven hits, with one strikeout and four walks.

Penn College returns to action Tuesday, 4 p.m., hosting Mansfield.
