WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Penn College men's tennis team punch its ticket to the North Eastern Athletic Conference team playoffs after a 6-3 win over Lancaster Bible College and a 5-4 victory against Penn State Abington Saturday. The Wildcats improved to 4-1 NEAC, 5-6 overall.
The women's team fell to LBC 9-0, and Abington 8-1 and wrapped up its season at 1-4 NEAC, 1-12 overall.
In the men's meets,
Penn College took two doubles against Lancaster Bible.
Garrett Benner and
Will DeMarco won No. 2, 8-5, and
Ethan Rosler and
Stephen Helminiak picked up a 9-8 (7-3) win at No. 3.
Demarco won No. 3 singles, 6-2, 6-2, Morrin had a 7-5, 6-4 victory at No. 4, Rosler was a 7-6 (7-2), 6-2 winner at No. 5, and Helminiak won, 8-3, at No. 6.
No. 2 and No. 3 doubles proved to be the difference against Penn State Abington. Benner and Demarco won, 8-5, at No. 2 and Helminiak and Rosler blanked, 8-0, in No. 3 doubles.
Demarco battled in No. 4 singles with a 6-4, 6-4 win,
Joseph Morrin earned at 6-1, 6-4 win at No. 5, and Rosler picked up a 6-1, 6-4 win in No. 6.
The official NEAC playoff scheduled will be released Monday.
In the women's meets,
LBC swept all matches against Penn College.
Emily Bell had the most competitive match at No. 4 singles. She fell to 5-7, 7-6 (7-1), 10-2.
Hanna Williams also was competitive in an 8-5 pro set defeat.
Bell's 8-5 win at No. 4 singles was Penn College's only win against Penn State Abington.
