Winters Tosses No Hitter: Softball Ends Regular Season With Sweep of Wells College
WILLIAMSPORT, PA: Penn College finished the regular season with a sweep of visiting Wells College on Sunday afternoon. The Wildcats won game one by a score of 8-0 before winning game two 2-1.
In Game One: Kassie Winters pitched a complete game no-hitter as the Wildcats won game one 8-0 in five-innings. Winters struck out three and walked just one in her first career no-hitter.
After a scoreless two innings Penn College exploded for four runs in the bottom of the 3rd and 4th innings.
Kylie Shreiner doubled to center for the first run of the third inning when she plated
Kristina Holland. After a
Taylor Brooks walk,
Alyssa Gentile laced a double to left scoring Shreiner and Brooks.
Chelsea Gray continued the doubles parade with her own double to left center that scored Gentile to put Penn College up 4-0.
With one out in the 4th Penn College had five consecutive hits scoring four runs.
Tiana McCormick had an RBI single right, with
Taylor Krow ripping an RBI single of her own to left. With Shreiner up Penn College worked a double steal with McCormick stealing home. Brooks knocked in the final run of the inning with a sac fly to right.
The Wildcats had eight hits in the game with Shreiner picking up a multiple hit effort.
In Game Two: Penn College scored a run in the first and run in the fifth inning as they went on to beat Wells 2-1.
The Wildcats took an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first on a Gray single to left that scored leadoff hitter
Taylor Krow.
Wells tied the game at 1-1 in the top of the 5th inning when Naomi Kubo smacked an inside the park homerun to left.
The Wildcats took the lead right back in the bottom of the 5th inning. With two outs Brooks singled through the right side and Gray followed with a single to right. With runners on the corner Brooks was able to score on a passed ball to put PCT up 2-1.
Morgan Heritage (7-7) pitched a complete game three hitter for the win. Heritage allowed just the one run while striking out 13 Wells batters.
Gray ended the game 3-for-3 from the plate with an RBI.
Penn College will now wait to see who they will face in the NEAC Playoffs this coming week.
