Penn College Downs Poly; Advances to NEAC Final Four

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Penn College withstood a lightning and rain delay, a 1-0 deficit, and eventually SUNY Poly in a 7-3 win in the first round of the North Eastern Athletic Conference softball playoffs. Penn College advanced to Friday's final four, 10 a.m., against Penn State Berks.

Following four scoreless innings, Poly went on the board in the bottom of fifth with a run to take a 1-0 lead.

Penn College answered in the top of the sixth when Elizabeth Asher cleared the bases with a three-run double center, which scored Morgan Heritage, Taylor Brooks and Kristina Holland and gave PCT a 3-1 lead.
Following Asher's at-bat, the game was delayed for approximately one-and-half hours before play resumed.

Taylor Brooks made it 4-1 when doubled to right to plate Tiana McCormick. Chelsea Gray followed with a single to score Brooks, and Heritage helped herself with a two-run double to center, which plated Alyssa Gentile and Brooks.

Poly tacked on two runs in the bottom of the seventh.

Asher led Penn College's with two hits.

Heritage tossed a complete-game and improved to 8-7. She allowed three runs, on five hits, with 14 strikeouts and five walks.
