WILLIAMSPORT, PA: Penn College opened up NEAC play with a sweep of Cazenovia College on a brisk Saturday afternoon. The Wildcats move to 8-6 (2-0 NEAC) on the year while Cazenovia falls to 4-9 (0-2 NEAC).
Game 1: Penn College scored two runs in the bottom of the 5
th inning to take game one by a score of 3-1. The Penn College Wildcats took an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the 1
st inning with an unearned run when a potential inning ending double play was thrown away by the second baseman allowing
Cody Cline to scamper in to score from second. In the top of the 3
rd Cazenovia tied the game up with an unearned run of their own.
Penn College used a little two-out magic in the bottom of the 5
th inning to plate two runs.
Alex Zelger ripped a single to left moving
Noah Esposito to third with Zelger ending up on second after advancing on the throw into third base. Cline delivered the two-out damage with a two RBI single to left putting Penn College up for good at 3-1.
Nathan Holt notched his second win of the season pitching a complete game two-hitter. It was Holt's first career complete game. Holt scattered two hits, striking out four while only giving up one un-earned run.
Game 2: After falling behind 4-0 after the top of the 6th inning
Richard Lennon sparked the comeback launching a three run home run to dead center field to close the gap to 4-3. With two outs and the bats quiet
Ben Flicker ripped a single to left and would later advance to second on a wild pitch.
Brittan Kittle walked before Lennon launched a 3-2 fastball to center for his first home run of the season.
Andrew Gilbert came into pitch in the top of the 7th and punched Cazenovia out in order for a big shutdown inning.
Trevor Dolin went the first six innings allowing three earned runs on four hits and three walks.
Trailing by one in the bottom of the 8th inning the Wildcats once again rallied with two outs as they scored five runs in the inning to take a commanding 8-4 lead with three outs remaining in the game. Lennon once again delivered the big blow lacing a 2-RBI double to left center to put PCT up 5-4.
Noah Esposito added an RBI walk in the inning and
Nathaniel Lowe cushioned the lead with a 2-RBI double down the left field line.
Aaron Palmer and
Devon Sanders combined to get the final three outs as the Wildcats picked up their fifth straight win. Gilbert picks up the win in relief as he allowed no batters to reach while striking out one in two innings of work.
Lennon finished the game a perfect 4-for-4 from the plate with five RBI's.
Penn College has a quick turnaround as they get right back to the diamond tomorrow afternoon with a NEAC doubleheader vs Wells College starting at Noon.
