WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Penn College won its second-straight Battle for the Lumber trophy with a 2-1 win against crosstown rival Lycoming College in a non-conference women's soccer match Wednesday. The Wildcats remained unbeaten at 3-0, while the Warriors fell to 0-6.
After a scoreless first half, Penn College struck 43 seconds into the second half.
Dominique Brown took a pass from
Tiffany Brown on the right side and bent the ball to the top left of the net to give Penn College a 1-0 lead.
Megan Bugbee made it 2-0 in the 62
nd minute after she cleaned up a ricocheted ball and deposited into the back of the net.
Lycoming cut its deficit in half in the 64
th minute to make it 2-1 but couldn't get any closer.
The Warriors put two shots on frame after their score, but
Taylor Gonzales (6 saves) stopped both attempts to preserve the lead.
Lycoming outshot Penn College 19-12 and held a 7-3 advantage in corner kicks.
Penn College returns to action Saturday, 4 p.m., at Gallaudet.
