WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Penn College picked up a North Eastern Athletic Conference victory in a men's basketball match-up with Wells College, 80-71 in Bardo Gymnasium on Saturday. The Wildcats improved to 2-12 overall, 1-4 NEAC, while the Express fall to 2-9 overall, and 1-3 NEAC.
Ryan Lockman led the Wildcats with 21 points, going 8-16 from the floor and 5-8 from the line.
Elijah Vazquez added a career-high 20 points, shooting 7-12 from the floor and 6-10 from behind the arc.
Ben Sosa led the Wildcats with 11 rebounds.
Rich Ross scored a team-high 32 points for Wells, Dylan Frost added 12 points, and Jalen Tribble added 10 along with a team-high 12 rebounds.
Penn College opened the game with a high level of intensity jumping out to an early 23-11 lead on Lockman's layup with 9:12 remaining in the first half. Wells cut the lead to six with 3:49 remaining on a 3-pointer by Rich Ross. In the final three and a half minutes the Wildcats used a 9-4 run– led by four points each from Sosa
Obens Luxama -- to go into halftime with a 40-29 lead.
After the break, Penn College had control until Ross knocked down a jumper and forced a turnover going end to end making the score 54-49 with 12:15 left in the game. Ross then made it a one possession game on a long range 3-pointer, before AJ Nesci pulled the Express within one on his first of two free throws with 10:05 left.
From there, it was back and forth with Penn College outscoring Wells 24-16 in the final ten minutes to secure the victory.
Penn College returns to action Sunday, 2 p.m. in a North Eastern Athletic Conference matchup hosting Keuka College.
