Eagles Edge Wildcats in OT Thriller

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – College of Saint Elizabeth forced a late turnover and scored on the ensuing possession with 10 seconds left in overtime, to edge Penn College 91-90 in a North Eastern Athletic Conference men's basketball game Wednesday. The Wildcats fell to 2-14 overall, 1-6 NEAC, while the Eagles improved to 8-5, 3-3.

Elijah Vazquez scored a team-high 22 points for Penn College, Ryan Lockman finished 21, Spencer Bartron added 15 and Carson Garvis added 11. Ben Sosa grabbed a team-high nine rebounds for the Wildcats.
Jason Saldiveri netted a game-high 29 points for CSE, Cam Tucker finished with 22, and Lance Rhoden added 13.

Deadlocked at 80-80 after regulation, the opening three minutes of overtime featured four lead changes and two ties after Tucker's free throws made it 86-86 with 2:46 left. The Eagles took an 88-86 at 2:35 before Penn College went on a 4-0 run – with a Vazquez jumper and two Bartron free throws – to lead 90-88 with under a minute left in the game. CSE pulled within one, 90-89, after connecting on one of two free throws with 39 seconds remaining. Jordan Simmons forced a Penn College turnover on the next possession and scored layup with 10 seconds remaining to give the Eagles a 91-90. The Wildcats had one last look at the basket, but Bartron's layup at the buzzer could not find the bottom of the net.

The Eagles led 41-37 at halftime and Penn College opened the second half with an 8-2 run to lead 45-43 on Garvis' three with 17:40 left in the game. The Wildcats took their largest lead, 53-45, on a Vazquez long ball with 14:51 on the clock before CSE went on a 15-7 run to tie the game at 63-63 with 8:27 remaining. The game was tied two more time before Eagles led 77-74 with under three minutes left. The Wildcats used a 6-3 spurt and took an 80-79 lead on Lockman's layup with 1:18 left in the game. CSE connected on one of two free throws late in the game to tie it 80-80 and eventually force overtime.

Penn College is scheduled to return to action Saturday, 3 p.m., at Gallaudet.
