WASHINGTON, D.C. – Penn College erased a six-point halftime, and took a four-point lead with eight minutes left, but Gallaudet responded en route an 87-77 win in a North Eastern Athletic Conference men's basketball game Monday. The Wildcats fell to 2-15 overall, 1-7 NEAC, while the Bison improved to 3-13, 3-5.
Spencer Bartron scored a team-high 28 points for Penn College and
Elijah Vazquez finished with 25.
Corey Smith led all scorers with 35 points for GU, while Noah Valencia added 20, and Valencia Biskupiak and Preston Kelly both finished with 12 points.
After Trailing 34-28 at halftime, Penn College found itself in a 10 point, 38-28, deficit with 17:22 left in the game. The Wildcats rallied to tie the game, 54-54, on a Bartron jumper with 10:17 on clock and took their largest lead, 62-58, on a Vazquez three two minutes later. The game was tied two more times before the Bison separated from a 65-65 deadlock with eight consecutive points to take a 73-65 lead 4:36 left in the game. Penn College got as close as five, twice, but GU responded both times to hold on for the win.
Penn College returns to action Wednesday, 8 p.m., hosting Penn State Abington.
