WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – The Penn College men's basketball team pulled within one of the visiting Nittany Lions late in the game, but it was not enough as Penn State Abington claimed a 64-53 Northeastern Athletic Conference contest Wednesday at Bardo Gymnasium. The Wildcats fell to 2-16, 1-8 NEAC on the season, while Abington improved to 9-8, 6-2 NEAC.
Ryan Lockman paced the Wildcats with a double-double effort of 14 points and 10 rebounds on 6-for-12 shooting. He also tallied game-highs of four assists and three blocks.
Spencer Bartron chipped in 13 points, while
Elijah Vazquez added 11 and
Carson Garvis 10. Garvis also pulled down seven rebounds.
The Nittany Lions had a pair of players put up 15 in Bobby Olsen and Jay Fitzgerald. Pernell Ghee added 13. John Ryan grabbed nine boards en route to a 44-34 Abington edge in the category.
The first half was a back-and-forth battle with the score being knotted on six occasions and no team leading by more than five until the Nittany Lions snagged a 27-19 lead at the four-minute mark with a 12-0 run. Abington lead 29-23 at the break.
Despite trailing 44-31 at 13:36 of the second, the Wildcats pieced together a 17-5 run over an eight-minute span to force a Nittany Lion timeout on a
Frank Tuason layup. A Fitzgerald trey helped Abington lock in a two-possession lead the rest of the way.
The Wildcats will next travel to SUNY Poly Tech on Saturday for a 3 p.m. tip.
