UTICA, N.Y. – Penn College used a four-goal first half to propel itself to a 5-3 win over SUNY Poly in a North Eastern Athletic Conference women's soccer match Saturday. PCT improved to 4-2 NEAC, 5-6-1 overall, while Poly fell to 4-2, 5-5-1
How it Happened:
Kaelan Cronan gave Penn College a 2-0 lead with consecutive scores in the second and fourth minutes. Her first score was unassisted, while
Francesca Timpone fed Cronan on the second. Poly scored in the seventh minute, before Dominque Brown made it 3-1 with unassisted tally in the 12
th minute. After a Poly score in the 19
th, Brown struck again in the 39
th minute to put Penn College ahead 4-2 at halftime.
Poly pulled within one, 4-3, with a score 21 seconds into the second half before Cronan fed Brown in the 55
th minute to give Penn College some cushion.
Inside the Box: Penn College outshot Poly, 20-17, and held a 5-3 edge in corner kicks.
Taylor Gonzales turned away four shots in goal for Penn College.
Outside the Box: Brown is third in the NEAC with nine goals and fifth in the conference with 22 points. Cronan is second on the team with 11 points.
"We put together possibly our strongest performance this season, but unfortunately, the few mistakes that we did make resulted in goals," said Penn College coach
Christa Matlack. "We hope to come together tomorrow for an even better showing. We are excited to see if we can walk away with two wins in our back-to-back conference weekend."
