WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Elmira withstood an aggressive Penn College offense, and netted a score in the second half, to escape with a 1-0 win in a non-conference men's soccer match Wednesday at UPMC Field. The Wildcats fell to 1-11-2, while the Eagles improved to 9-3-2.
How it Happened: After a scoreless first half, Elmira found the back of the net off a corner kick in the 56
th minute.
Penn College missed a chance early in the first half when
Greg Conkle had a shot saved, and
Greg Dorsch's rebound attempt was cleared off the line by a defender in the 17
th minute.
The Wildcats had a flurry of shots in the final eight minutes, but attempts from
Matthew Yoder,
Josiah Potts, and
Colton Wartman all missed the mark.
Inside the Box: The Wildcats outshot Elmira, 14-11, and held a 10-8 advantage in corner kicks. The Eagles fired four shots on frame, while PCT sent three on target.
Joshua Stanley stopped three shots in goal for the Wildcats.
