WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Penn College allowed a late first half goal in a 1-0 loss to Lycoming College in the Battle for the Lumber non-conference women's soccer match Wednesday at UPMC Field. The Wildcats fell to 3-5-1, while the Warriors improved to 7-3-1.
How it happened: Bella Green scored on Alicia Blizzard's pass in 40th minute to break the 0-0 deadlock. Miya Roman fired two shots on frame in the first half for Penn College, while Adeline Gesford had her shot stopped in the 43rd minute.
Tiffany Brown was the only Wildcat to put a ball on target in the second half, but it was stopped in the 78th minute.
Inside the box: Lycoming out shot Penn College, 27-11, and held a 5-1 edge in corner kicks.
Taylor Gonzales anchored Penn College's defense with eight saves, including a diving stop in the first half that kept the Warriors off the board.
Outside the box: Lycoming College claimed the Battle for the Lumber trophy for the first time in two years, as Penn College had won the previous two contests.
