Box Score HUNTINGDON, Pa. – Penn College traveled to Juniata College for a non-conference men's soccer match Tuesday evening. The Wildcats battled hard but lost the game 2-1. Penn College fell to 1-8-1, while the Eagles jumped to 6-6-1.
How it Happened: The Eagles struck first early with a goal in the 2
nd minute to take an quick 1-0 advantage. The rest of the first half was a stalemate as both teams put on a defensive battle.
Juniata added another goal in the 78
th minute. But the Wildcats responded just over a minute later when
Greg Conkle found the back of the net off a pass from
Colton Wartman to make the score 2-1.
The Wildcats ran out of time as the Eagles went on to win by a score of 2-1.
Inside the Box: Juniata held the offensive advantage in total shots, 18-6, shots on goal, 7-2, and corner kicks, 1-0.
Brendan Skwirut anchored the Wildcats' defense with 5 saves.
Outside the Box: The Penn College men's soccer team looked to build off an all-around well-played game last Saturday when they tied Lancaster Bible College. The Wildcats looked focused and energized to start the game against Juniata College. Head Coach
Tyler Mensch said, "We are a very talented team. We are young and that shows at times." The Wildcats dropped their 8
th game of the year and their 6
th game by 1 goal. "We showed toughness to battle back at the end to make things interesting. Once we stay disciplined and understand what it takes to win, we will compete with anyone in our conference," Mensch added.
