Penn College Edged by Berks

READING, Pa. – Penn State Berks survived Penn College, 88-85, in a North Eastern Athletic Conference men's basketball game Wednesday. The Wildcats fell to 3-21 overall, 2-13 NEAC, while the Nittany Lions improved to 3-20, 3-12.

Spencer Bartron pumped in a game-high 26 points to lead Penn College in scoring, while Carson Garvis finished with 21, Elijah Vazquez added 17, and Ryan Lockman contributed with 10. Bartron and Garvis both finished with double-doubles with rebounds each, and Bartron finished with five assists.

Latrell Carroll paced Berks with 24 points and 11 rebounds, while four other Berks players finished with double figures in scoring.

The Lions held an 88-77 lead with 1:34 left in the game before Penn College netted eight consecutive points in the ensuing minute to make it a one-possession game, 88-85, with 41 seconds remaining. Penn College forced a turnover and missed free throw with 13 seconds remaining before a PCT turnover with three seconds sealed the game for Penn State Berks.

Berks led 44-39 at halftime before building a 48-41 lead one minute into the second half.  Penn College answered with an 11-0 run take a 52-48 lead on a Garvis layup with 16 minutes left in the game. The Lions responded with a 25-5 spurt to put their advantage into double figures and the lead for good.

Penn College returns to the court Saturday, 3 p.m., hosting Gallaudet.
