MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – Penn College opened its season this week and 0-4 at the midway point of its Spring Break trip. The Wildcats fell to Albertus Magnus, 12-6, Spalding, 2-0, Cairn, 7-6, and Shawnee State, 9-0.
Against Albertus Magnus,
Penn College scored six runs in the second inning. The offensive firepower by Wildcats was led by
Jessica Brooks,
Shayla Bickel,
Taylor Krow,
Kylie Shreiner,
Gillian Sinnott, and
Chelsea Gray, all driving in runs in the inning.
Sarah Woodruff took the loss for the Wildcats. She went two-thirds of an inning, allowing seven runs on five hits and striking out one.
Penn College totaled 12 hits. Krow, Bickel, and Liz Asher each racked up multiple hits for Wildcats. Krow led Wildcats with three hits in four at bats.
Against Spalding,
Both teams were strong on the rubber on Monday, but Spalding University was just a little bit stronger at the plate in a victory over Wildcats on Monday.
Morgan Heritage took the loss for the Wildcats. She allowed three hits and two runs over seven innings, striking out 11.
Krow went 2-for-3 at the plate.
Cairn
Penn College took a 2-0 lead in the first inning with RBIs from
Elizabeth Asher and
Emily Wikane and added a run in the second on
Taylor Brooks' RBI. Cairn added three in the third and two in the fourth to lead 5-3.
Wikane's RBI in the fifth made 5-4 and Krow brought in two in the seventh for Penn College.
Morgan Heritage took the loss for Wildcats. She allowed eight hits and five runs over four innings, striking out seven.
Chelsea Gray led Wildcats with three hits.
Against Shawnee,
Kassidy Svenson took the loss for Wildcats. She surrendered nine runs on six hits over one and two-thirds innings, walking one.
