MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – Penn College concluded its Spring Break trip with a 2-2 mark in the final four games. The Wildcats fell to Stockton in doubleheader, 4-2 and 16-5, before beating Wells, 13-0, and Centenary University, 11-2.
Penn College improved to 2-6 this season.
Against Stockton (Game 1),
Penn College got things started in the second inning when
Rylan Whitmyer doubled on a 2-0 count, scoring two runs.
Devon Sanders took the loss for the Wildcats Varsity. He lasted six innings, allowing ten hits and three runs while striking out four.
Whitmyer led Penn College with two hits.
Against Stockton (Game 2),
Penn College got things moving in the first inning, with RBIs from Riley,
Richard Lennon,
Jacob Carles, and Whitmyer.
Stockton tacked on a run in the second, two in the third, one in the fourth, nine in the fifth, and three in the sixth.
Braden Smith took the loss for PCT. He went one inning, allowing four runs on four hits, striking out two and walking one.
Bradley Walter started the game and went two innings, allowing two hits and one run while striking out two and walking one.
Carles,
Christian Perna, Lennon, and
Alex Zelger each had multiple hits for the Wildcats. Carles went 3-for-3 at the plate.
Against Wells,
Nathan Holt shut down Wells, throwing a complete-game shutout, with nine strikeouts.
Brittan Kittle drove in four runs. He went 3-for-4 at the plate. Kittle drove in runs on a single in the first, a double in the fifth, and a double in the ninth.
PCT tallied 17 hits in the game. Riley (4 for 6), Kittle,
Jacob Carles, and
Cole Hofmann each managed multiple hits. Riley and
Alex Flicker each drove in two runs.
Against Centenary,
A six-run fifth inning lifted Penn College to its second-straight win. Carles, Lennon, Kittle, Riley, and Hofmann all contributed in the big inning with RBIs.
The Wildcats opened up scoring in the second inning, when
Samuel Zeigler singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run and took the lead for good with four runs in the fourth inning. In the fourth Zeigler singled on a 1-0 count, scoring one run, Lennon was hit by a pitch, driving in a run, and Riley drew a walk, scoring one run.
In the fifth inning. PCT put the pressure on, with doubles by Carles and Kittle, a triple by Riley, a single by Hofmann, and an error on a ball put in play by Lennon.
Cody Nelson picked up the win after seven innings, allowing eight hits and two runs while striking out three.
Andrew Gilbert threw two innings in relief out of the bullpen.
Penn College returns to action March 23 at Washington College.
