BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – Penn College completed its three-game sweep of Lancaster Bible College with a 12-7 win over the Chargers in a North Eastern Athletic Conference baseball game at Central Columbia High School Sunday. The Wildcats improved to 3-0 NEAC, 5-9 overall, while LBC fell to 0-3, 3-9.
Brittan Kittle, who totaled seven hits in the series, reach 100 career hits Sunday.
Penn College benefited from a wild pitch in the first to take a 1-0 lead and LBC evened the contest in the fourth.
The Wildcats took the lead for good in the bottom of the fourth when an error plated two runs. Kittle made it 4-1 on a single in the fifth and
Colton Riley followed with a three-run homer to left field to put Penn College ahead 7-1.
The Chargers added three in the sixth to pull within three, 7-4, but the Wildcats answered in the bottom of the frame with RBIs from Kittle and
Alex Flicker. After Bible added two in the top of the seventh, Penn College brought in three in the eighth on two errors and
Alex Zelger's RBI.
Kittle finished with three hits, while
Jacob Carles, Riley, Flicker, and
Samuel Zeigler all finished with two hits.
Cody Nelson improved to 2-1 after six innings on the rubber. He allowed four earned runs on seven hits, with seven strikeouts – including his 100
th career strikeout- and four walks.
Andrew Gilbert picked up his first save of the season by striking out his lone batter with the bases loaded.
Penn College returns to action Wednesday, 6 p.m., hosting Penn State DuBois at Bowman Field.
