WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Penn College dropped a tough battle to Penn State Dubois Wednesday evening in extra innings, 9-6. The Wildcats fell to 5-10 overall, while DuBois improved to 16-6.
Penn College started the game with the bats swinging as they opened with 7 hits and 4 runs to take a 4-1 lead through the first three innings. The scoring begin in the second inning when
Alex Flicker singled to center field and then was advanced to third in by a double from
Cole Hofmann. With two runners on base,
Ethan Ketterman singled to center field to bring Flicker in the first run.
Connor Burke soon followed to score Hofmann to give the Wildcats a 2-1 lead through two innings. The scoring continued in the third inning when Hofmann again doubled to right field brining in two runs to take a 4-1 lead through three innings.
After three scoreless innings from both teams, DuBois answered by taking the lead, 6-4, with 5-runs in the seventh inning.
The Wildcats would not go down without a fight. With
Christian Perna on first by fielder's choice,
Alex Zelger ripped a single to left field to put two runners on base. Both runners would advance on a passed ball to put two in scoring position with one out.
Jacob Carles hit a sacrifice fly to left field to bring in Perna and advance Zelger to third base. Now down one run in the bottom of the ninth inning,
Richard Lennon stepped up to the plate and ripped a game-tying double to center field to send the game into extra innings.
Dubois scored three unanswered runs to go on to win 9-6 in 10 innings.
Hofmann paced the Wildcats going 4-5 at bat, including three doubles and two RBIs. Zelger and Lennon followed with three hits each.
Hunter Thomas falls to 0-1 on the year by throwing 3 innings and allowing 3 earned runs.
Penn College returns to action Saturday, April 6
th, as the Wildcats travel to the Empire State to face NEAC foe Keuka College in a double header starting at 1:00pm.
