Bickel’s Walk-Off Highlights Sweep of Hazelton

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Penn College came out swinging in a non-conference softball double-header with Penn State Hazleton Monday evening. The Wildcats improved to 8-6 overall, with 14-6 and 12-3 wins.

In game one,
Penn College started the game hot with Olivia Hemstock singling to left field followed by a Taylor Krow walk.  Then, Sarah Woodruff struck a line drive to center field to bring in the first two runs of the game.  After a sacrifice bunt by Taylor Brooks to advance Woodruff to second base, Kylie Shreiner brought her in to go up 3-0 after the first inning.

Penn State Hazleton responded with four runs in the top of the third inning.  The lead did not last long as Chelsea Gray started the bottom of the third with a triple to left field.  Shreiner brought her in at the next at bat with a single to center field.

It was all Wildcats from there on for the rest of the game.  Brooks tripled to center field to bring in two of the team's four runs in the fourth inning.  The team tallied four more runs in the fifth inning and brought in two more runs in the sixth to end the game early.

Shreiner went 4-for-4 at the plate, while Gray and Brooks totaled three hits each.

Kayla Christopher picks up the win for the Wildcats who allowed six hits and two runs to improve to 2-0 on the season.

In game two,
Shayla Bickel's three-run home run in the bottom of sixth inning ended game due to the eight-run rule.

Hazelton took an early 1-0 run in third before the Wildcats tied it in the bottom of the frame on Kiana Lukoskie's RBI single. Penn College tacked on four in the fourth on RBIs from Hemstock, Lukoskie, and Gray, and an error to lead 5-1.

The Nittany Lions picked up two runs in the fifth but PCT answered with four in the bottom of the inning on a Maddie Wenk single and Kylie Shreiner's three-run double to center to make it 9-3.

Lukoskie, Elizabeth Asher, Gillian Sinnott, and Bickel all picked up two hits for Penn College.

Kassidy Svenson improved to 1-1 after 4.2 innings, allowing two earned runs on six hits, with one strikeout and no walks. Kyla Benner picked up the save after 1.1 innings.
