READING, Pa. – Penn College couldn't hold on to a 7-2 lead as Penn State Berks rallied to knock off the Wildcats, 18-12, in a North Eastern Athletic Conference baseball game Sunday. Penn College fell to 4-5 NEAC, 6-17 overall, while the Lions improved to 7-2, 16-8.
Penn College came out swinging in the first inning and took a 5-0 lead after RBIs from
Jacob Carles,
Brittan Kittle, Cole Hoffman, and Conner Burke. Berks added two runs in the bottom of the first, before Penn College matched it with two in third on
Ethan Ketterman's two-run double.
The Lions pumped in six runs in the fourth and two in the fifth to lead 10-7, but the Wildcats answered with four in the sixth.
Richard Lennon smacked a two-run homer to left in the sixth and
Samuel Zeigler roped a two-run double to left.
Berks knocked in seven runs in the sixth and one in the eighth, while Penn College got a run back in the seventh on Hofmann's single to right.
Carles finished with three hits for Penn College, while
Alex Zelger, Hofmann, and Burke picked up two hits.
Trevor Dolin fell to 0-2 after two innings of work. He allowed six runs (four earned), on five hits, with no strikeouts and three walk.
Bradley Walter started the game for the Wildcats, surrendering eight earned runs, on 11 hits, with two strikeouts.
Penn College returns to action Wednesday, 6 p.m., hosting Mount Aloysius.
