WELLS, N.Y. – Penn College swept Wells College in a North Eastern Athletic Conference softball doubleheader Monday. The Wildcats needed eight innings in the first game to pull out an 11-7 win, before winning 11-2 in six innings in the nightcap.
Penn College improved to 8-4 NEAC, 16-12 overall.
In game one,
Kylie Shreiner belted a grand slam home run in the top of the eighth inning to break a 7-7 deadlock.
Wells took a 4-0 lead in the third before
Elizabeth Asher smacked two-run homer in the fourth to make it 4-2.
Gillian Sinnott's two-run double to center, and
Maddie Wenk's RBI single in the fifth brought in three of the Wildcats five runs in the inning to put PCT ahead 7-4.
The Express evened the game in the fifth, which eventually forced extra innings.
Wenk, Sinnott, Asher, Shreiner,
Chelsea Gray, and
Olivia Hemstock all picked up two hits for Penn College.
Morgan Heritage improved to 5-7 in three hitless innings of relief. She struck out seven and walked no batters.
In game two,
Penn College jumped out to a 3-0 lead with RBIs from Shreiner in the first and third innings, and an error in the opening frame.
After Wells picked up two runs in the third, Penn College added one in the fourth, and three in each of the fifth and sixth innings.
Asher batted in a run in the fourth, while
Taylor Krow knocked one in the fifth and Shreiner brought home two in the same innings.
Chelsea Gray made 9-2 on a single in the sixth, and Shreiner followed with a two-run double.
Shreiner finished with three hits for Penn College, while Gray, Krow, and Hemstock finished with two hits each.
Kassidy Svenson improved to 4-1 after five innings. She allowed two runs, on two hits, with two strikeouts and three walks.
Penn College returns to action Tuesday, 5 p.m., hosting Lancaster Bible.
