Wildcats Dominate Eagles; Improve to 9-Game Win Streak

MORRISTOWN, N.J. – Penn College traveled to the Garden State to face the College of Saint Elizabeth Saturday afternoon in a NEAC softball double-header. The Wildcats won both games on the day with scores of 3-1 and 6-1.  Penn College improved to 19-12 overall, 11-4 NEAC, while Saint Elizabeth dropped to 24-13, 11-6.

In game one,
Morgan Heritage took the mound for the Wildcats and took control of the game.  After the offense gave her a 1-0 lead off a Kylie Shreiner single to right center to score Taylor Krow, Heritage had the all the cushion she needed to handle the Eagles.  Heritage started the game with a 3-up, 3-down first inning including one strikeout.

Both teams went scoreless in the second inning and Heritage picked up two more strikeouts.  Then, the Wildcats offense added two runs in the third inning.  Krow ripped a deep shot to left center field for a double and then was brought in on a sacrifice bunt by Olivia Hemstock. Shreiner notched her second RBI of the day with a hard-hit single up the middle to score Chelsea Gray and take a 3-0 lead.

The Eagles picked up one run in the bottom of the fifth inning, but that's as close as they would get.  Heritage, with the strong Wildcats' defense behind her, dominated on the mound to close out the game as the Wildcats picked up the first win of the day 3-1.

Shreiner led the Wildcats' offense going 3-3 with 2 RBIs, followed by Krow who went 2-4 with 2 runs.

Heritage (7-7) went the distance on the mound against the Eagles to earn the win with 8 strikeouts and only gave up 1 run.

In game two,
Penn College used the momentum from the first game to head into the second game of the afternoon doubleheader.  Kylie Shreiner started the scoring for the Wildcats by smacking a double to left field to score Olivia HemstockTaylor Brooks was next who reached on a throwing error by the catcher and scored Shreiner to take a 2-0 lead.

In the third inning, Shreiner doubled again to put a runner in scoring position.  Gillian Sinnott then ripped a hit to center field to score Shreiner and go up 3-0.

Then the Wildcats really found their groove when Taylor Krow reached base in the fourth inning on a fielder's choice.  Chelsea Gray then singled to put runners at first and second.  Hemstock followed suit with a single to load the bases.  After a pitching change for the Eagles, Shreiner singled up the middle to score Krow for the first run of the inning. Next, Brooks smashed a hard hit ball to center field to score 2 RBIs to give the Wildcats a 6-0 lead.

The Eagles would add one run in the fourth inning and then the Wildcats added another run in the seventh inning when Emily Wikane ripped a single to score a run.  The Eagles couldn't keep up with the hot bats of the Wildcats as Penn College takes the win 7-1 with 17 hits.

Shreiner again led the Wildcats' offense going 3-4 at-bat with 2 RBIs and 2 runs while Gillian Sinnott added 2-4 at-bat with 1 RBI.  Chelsea Gray added 1 run and Taylor Brooks added 2 RBIs.

Kassidy Svenson (6-1) gets the win on the mound with 3 strikeouts and only allowing 1 run.

Penn College looks to keep their win streak alive as they face a quick-turn around when they travel to Penn State Abington for a NEAC double header on Sunday, April 28th at 12pm.
