ABINGTON, Pa. – Penn College split with Penn State Abington in a North Eastern Athletic Conference softball doubleheader Sunday. The Wildcats qualified for their third-straight NEAC playoffs after a 7-0 win, and 5-1 setback. Penn College tied a program mark for most wins in a season with a 21-13 overall record, 13-5 NEAC.
In game one,
Penn College got hot late with a run in fifth, and six in the seventh innings.
Chelsea Gray's sacrifice to center in the fifth made it 1-0.
Kylie Shreiner,
Taylor Brooks,
Maddie Wenk, and
Shayla Bickel each picked up RBIs in the seventh.
Taylor Krow finished with three hits – including a triple, and Shreiner finished with two.
Morgan Heritage improved to 8-7 after a complete-game shutout. She allowed four hits, struck out nine, and walked four.
In game two,
Elizabeth Asher's double to center in the third inning tied the game at 1-1, before the Lions added two runs in each of the third and fifth innings.
Kassidy Svenson fell to 6-2 after 4.1 innings. She allowed four earned runs, on seven hits, with two walks, and no strikeouts.
Penn College is slated to host a first round playoff game on Tuesday. Opponent and time to be determined.
