WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Penn College scored four runs in the first inning en route to a 5-2 win over Penn State Abington in the first round of the North Eastern Athletic Conference softball playoffs Tuesday. The Wildcats improved to 22-13, while the Lions ended their season at 16-22.
Penn College is slated to play SUNY Coubleskill in the double-elimination Final Four Friday at Penn State Berks. It's the Wildcats second consecutive trip to the NEAC Final Four.
Taylor Brooks began the scoring in the first when she lined a two-run single to left field, bringing in
Chelsea Gray and
Taylor Krow.
Gillian Sinnott brought home
Kylie Shreiner with a single to right and Brooks touched home on the same play due to an error.
Abington got a run back in the third to make it 4-1 before an error on the Lions in the fourth scored Krow for an insurance run.
Abington made it 5-2 in the sixth but couldn't get any closer.
Krow led the Wildcats with three hits, while Brooks, and Sinnott finished with two hits.
Morgan Heritage improved to 9-7 after a complete-game effort. She allowed two earned runs, on five hits, with nine strike outs, and three walks.
