Wildcats Rally Late, Fall to Blazers

Box Score Wildcats Rally Late, Fall to Blazers

FREDERICK, Md. – Penn College opened the 2019 season on the road with a tough loss to Hood College, 3-1.  The Wildcats fell to 0-1, while the Blazers improved to 1-0.

How it Happened: Despite being down 2-0 at the half, the Wildcats continued to fight back.  In the 75th minute, Derek Eckman found the back of the net to bring the score to 2-1.  But that's as close as the Wildcats would get as Hood would add one more goal to go up 3-1 and finish the game.

Inside the Box: Penn College pressed on the offensive end and tied Hood with 10 shots in the game, but the Blazers held a 7-2 advantage in corner kicks.  Brendan Skwirut, in goal for the Wildcats, finished with seven saves.

Outside the Box: Eckman scored his first collegiate goal in the second half to start a late rally for the Wildcats.  Colton Wartman drilled a shot on goal with 5:00 minutes remaining, which would have brought the game to 3-2, but the goal keeper made a fantastic save on the line to keep the lead at two.

Up Next: Penn College continues their road trip, Saturday, August 31, against Wilson College at 2:00 PM.
