Box Score Wildcats Rally Late, Fall to Blazers

FREDERICK, Md. – Penn College opened the 2019 season on the road with a tough loss to Hood College, 3-1. The Wildcats fell to 0-1, while the Blazers improved to 1-0.   Â

How it Happened: Despite being down 2-0 at the half, the Wildcats continued to fight back. In the 75
th minute,
Derek Eckman found the back of the net to bring the score to 2-1. But that's as close as the Wildcats would get as Hood would add one more goal to go up 3-1 and finish the game.Â

Inside the Box: Penn College pressed on the offensive end and tied Hood with 10 shots in the game, but the Blazers held a 7-2 advantage in corner kicks.Â
Brendan Skwirut, in goal for the Wildcats, finished with seven saves.Â

Outside the Box: Eckman scored his first collegiate goal in the second half to start a late rally for the Wildcats.Â
Colton Wartman drilled a shot on goal with 5:00 minutes remaining, which would have brought the game to 3-2, but the goal keeper made a fantastic save on the line to keep the lead at two.Â
