Wildcats Edged by King’s in Season Opener

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Penn College dropped a 2-1 decision to King's College in a non-conference women's soccer match Friday in the inaugural match at UPMC Field. The Monarchs improved to 1-0, while the Wildcats fell to 0-1.

How it Happened: King's struck early with a pair of goals in the opening 20 minutes and withstood a late Penn College score in the second half. Angelina Falcone found the back of the net in the 17th minute, before Emily Harrington buried a pass from Breanna Jacinto in the 19th.

Miya Roman made it 2-1 when she sent a rocket from 30 yards out just over the keeper's head in the 79th minute for the Wildcats.

Inside the Box: King's outshot Penn College, 19-9, and held a 6-4 advantage in corner kicks.

Taylor Gonzales turned away eight shots in goals, and the Wildcats cleared two balls off the line to keep the game close in the second half.

The Wildcats missed on a pair of early opportunities in the first half when shots from Tiffany Brown and Abby Williams were stopped in the eighth minute, and three more shots from Penn College in the first were off target.

Outside the Box: Roman's score was the first of her career for the freshman, and marked the first official score for Penn College at the brand new UPMC Field.

Penn College is 1-4 all-time against King's.

Up Next: The Wildcats return to action next Saturday at St. Joseph's College.
