MIDDLETOWN, Pa. – Penn State Harrisburg netted the game-winner in 101
st minute to escape with a 2-1 double overtime win against Penn College Saturday in a North Eastern Athletic Conference women's soccer match. The Wildcats fell to 0-3-1 overall, 0-1 NEAC, while the Lions improved to 3-4, 1-0
.
How it Happened: Following a scoreless first half, Harrisburg went ahead 1-0 in the 72
nd minute before the Wildcats tied the game in the 79
th minute.
Tiffany Brown took a
Kaelan Cronan pass and sent it to the back of the net to make it 1-1.
Neither team managed a shot in the first overtime, while Harrisburg sent two on frame in the second overtime, including the game-winner.
Inside the Box: Harrisburg out shot Penn College 23-10 and held a 7-2 advantage in corner kicks.
Taylor Gonzales stopped seven shots in goal for Penn College, while Hannah Williams picked up three for Harrisburg.
Outside the Box: Brown scored her first goal this season and Cronan notched her first helper in her first game this season. Cronan and
Madison Kistler made their debut this season after recovering from injuries.
"The team had their best performance to date. Our effort and intensity in today's match carried us through to overtime," said coach
Christa Matlack. "Our defense was strong, our midfield dominated on 50/50 opportunities, and our forwards generated plenty of goal scoring opportunities. We just need to find some composure in front of the goal to bury our shots. Looking forward to see what the team puts together in tomorrow's match."
