Wildcats Drop Two to E-town

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Penn College fell in a pair on non-conference tennis matches to Elizabethtown College Saturday. The men fell, 7-2, while the women lost 9-0.

How it Happened: Tucker Phillippe-Johansson picked up Penn College's lone singles win with a 6-4, 6-3 victory at No. 1 singles. Blake Whitmire's No. 2 singles match needed three sets as Whitmire won the first, 6-1, dropped the second, 6-0, and battled in the third before falling 7-5.

Whitmire and Luke Whitenight teamed to win No. 2 doubles, 8-4.

In the women's match, the Wildcats were swept in all nine matches and managed five set wins.

Inside the Box: Penn College was shutout in No. 3 and No. 4 singles for the men, 6-0, and in No. 1 and No. 3 singles for the women.

The men fell to 0-2, while the women dropped to 0-1.

Outside the Box: Phillippe-Johansson, the reigning NEAC Rookie of the Year, picked up his first win, and the Wildcats first win, this season.

"Tucker was the lone win in singles," PCT coach Jessica Bower said about the men's match. "And he did it with confidence and his serve."

"The ladies played hard but Elizabethtown had some very consistent and hard hitting players. We know that we need to work on placing the ball better."

Up Next: The Wildcats return to action Sept. 21 at Marywood University.
