Wildcats Fall to Susquehanna

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Penn College opened the 2019 campaign with a 9-0 setback to Susquehanna University in a non-conference men's tennis match Saturday. The Wildcats fell to 0-1, while the Hawks improved to 1-0.

How it happened: SU only dropped 13 sets in a 6-0 singles sweep, and won all three of the doubles matches.

Inside the box: The doubles competition was a battle at No. 1 and No. 2. Tucker Phillipe-Johansson and Joseph Morrin bowed 8-5 at No. 1 doubles, while Blake Whitmire and Luke Whitenight fell 8-4 in No. 2.

Outside the box: Penn College started two freshmen – Zack Burkhart and Jesse Kight – and played the match at Elm Park, which will be its home site for the 2019-20 season.

"We need to work on calming our nerves," PC coach Jessica Bower said. "It was a match that we will build on for the rest of season."

Up Next: The Wildcats host Elizabethtown College, for the first time in program history, Saturday at 3 p.m.
