Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Wildcats Win Third Straight; Down Gallaudet

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Penn College won its third-straight game with a 74-60 victory over Gallaudet in a North Eastern Athletic Conference men's basketball game Saturday. The Wildcats improved to 5-11 overall, 3-4 NEAC, while the Bison fell to 2-14, 2-5.

How it Happened: Penn College jumped out to an 11-2 lead after a Ben Sosa layup six minutes into the game. Gallaudet pulled with three, 16-13, with 9:40 left in the first before Penn College used an 8-1 to take a 24-14 lead on a Jesse White three with 6:03 on the clock. The Wildcats led 28-23 at halftime.

Penn College held a double-digit lead the entire second half, and took its largest advantage, 71-48, in a pair Elijah Vazquez free throws with 3:21 left in the game.

Inside the Box: Vazquez scored a game-high 19 points for Penn College, on 5 of 13 from the field and 6 of 6 from the line. Damon Kreider finished with 17, and Carson Garvis picked up a double-double with 11 points and a game-high 12 rebounds.

Sosa finished nine points and 10 rebounds and moved into fifth all-time with 1,076 career points.

Preston Kelly and Matt Sherman led the Bison with 11 points.

Outside the Box: "I thought overall we got the job done.  It started on the defense by contesting their 3-pointers and winning the rebounding battle," Penn College coach Geoff Hensley said. " Once we found our rhythm in transition, we were able to attack the basket for layups or transition three-pointers.  Our help-side defense came up big as we were able to close a lot of their driving gaps and post ups in the paint.

"Corey Blackwell gave us a great spark in the second half with outstanding passes to our wings in transition.  Damon Kreider gave us a big lift getting to the rim and the free throw line.  Defensively, Brody Baker and Elijah were solid and consistent guarding their perimeter players.  Ben, Carson and Jesse White were huge on the glass to limit Gallaudet to one shot and done.

"I'm very proud of this group for their commitment to be the best team they can be.  It starts every day at practice with a great work ethic and positive attitude to continue to improve.  We are taking each game and practice day by day with the mentality of becoming the best team we can become.  When this team is clicking and focused, we can compete with any opponent we play."

Up Next: Penn College returns to action Wednesday, 5:30 p.m., at Lancaster Bible.
