READING, Pa. – Penn College dropped a 30-15 decision to Alvernia University in a wrestling dual meet Friday. The Wildcats fell to 5-14, while the Golden Wolves improved to 5-5.
How it Happened: Penn College surrendered forfeits at 125 and 133 to give AU a 12-0 advantage before
Lukas O'Connor made it 12-6 with a fall at 141 for the Wildcats. Following a decision at 149 for Alvernia, Penn College won the next two with decisions from
Trevor Crowley and
Dylan Gettys to make it 15-12.
AU won the next three of four matches, with the Wildcats picking a win from
Jared Mooney at 184.
Outside the Box: "We wrestled exceptionally well in six of the eight matches. Crowley and Mooney both beat guys tonight that beat them earlier in the year," Penn College coach
Jamie Miller said. "
Jalen Edwards is showing a lot of promise at 197. He wrestled a great match against a tough kid and gave himself a chance to win in the third period.
"In the end, we brought just enough fire power to overcome forfeits. Unfortunately, with one of our horses out of the lineup today at 133, it would have taken eight exceptional matches to overcome both forfeits. Tip our cap to them – they showed up today, in a home event, and outlasted us."
Up Next: Penn College returns to action Friday, 7 p.m., hosting Wilkes University.
