WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Penn College dropped a 30-11 decision to Wilkes University in a non-conference wrestling match Friday. The Wildcats fell to 5-15, while the Colonels improved to 9-9.
How it Happened: Wilkes jumped out to an 18-0 lead following a forfeit, a fall, and a pair of decisions.
Jesse Walker put Penn College on the board with a 10-8 decision at 157 and
Dylan Gettys followed with a 4-2 win at 165 to make it 18-6. After win by the Colonels at 174,
Jared Mooney picked up an impressive 18-0 technical fall at 184 for the Wildcats.
Lukas O'Connor battled in his 149-pound match, holding a 3-2 lead with 10 seconds left, before surrendering a takedown at the buzzer to fall 4-3.
Outside the Box: "I can't complain about our effort. I think each guy gave their all in every match," Penn College coach
Jamie Miller said. "O'Connor wrestled with a lot of energy in his first match at 149. Walker showed he's never our of a match bouncing back from an early deficit in his first match at 157. Gettys battled through some sickness a gutted out a win at 165 and Mooney looked strong again at 184. As has been our refrain all year, we still have a lot of work to do but we've preached effort all year and we gave our best tonight."
Up Next: Penn College returns to action Saturday hosting a quad meet with Oswego, Lackawanna College, and Washington and Jefferson beginning at 11 a.m.
