WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Penn College exploded in the third quarter, and held off a late run by Penn State Abington, to secure a 64-57 win in a North Eastern Athletic Conference women's basketball game Wednesday. The Wildcats improved to 5-13, 2-8 NEAC, while the Nittany Lions fell to 7-11, 5-5.
How it Happened: Penn College erased an 11-2 deficit with a 13-4 run – sparked by two threes from
Olivia Johnson – to end the quarter tied at 15. Deadlocked at 20-20 midway through the second, the Wildcats used 13-4 spurt – with seven points by
Cassi Kuhns – to lead 33-24 at halftime.
A Kuhns layup with 5:36 left in the third gave Penn College its largest lead, 47-26, and the Wildcats held a 57-42 advantage at the end of the quarter. The Lions chipped away at Penn College's lead in the fourth and pulled within two, 58-56, with 2:41 left in the game but PCT went 4 of 6 from the line in the closing minutes to ice the game.
Inside the Box: Kuhns picked up her fifth double-double this season with 16 points and 12 rebounds,
Lydia Albert finished with 13 points, and
Tori Wolfe added 11.
Ashya Gaddy paced Abington with 19 points.
Outside the Box: "This was a great team win," Penn College coach
Britni Mohney said. "We played hard the entire game and had strong third quarter. I'm very proud of this team's resolve tonight."
