WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Penn College fell to Penn State Altoona, 63-46, in a nonconference women's basketball Thursday. The Wildcats fell to 0-4, while the Nittany Lions improved to 1-3.
How it happened: Penn College took its largest lead of the first quarter, 10-7, on
Rachel Teats' jumper with three minutes left in the period before Altoona closed out the period with a 6-0 run to lead 13-10. The Lions built their lead to 11, 23-12, with 7:19 left in the second but the Wildcats answered with a 12-4 spurt to get as close as three, 27-24, on
Ja'Quela Dyer's layup with 3:19 on the clock. The Lions added a late bucket to lead 29-24 at halftime.
Penn College opened the third quarter with a 9-4 run to tie the game at 33 after a pair of Teats free throws with 6:15 on the clock. Altoona answered with 10-2 run to close out the quarter ahead 43-35. The Lions lead never dipped below eight points in the fourth quarter and they led by as many as 19.
Inside the box:
Cassi Kuhns paced the Wildcats with 11 points and grabbed eight rebounds. Dyer finished with a season-high 18 rebounds and finished alongside Teats with eight points.
Alexis Cannisttraci finished with game-high 30 points for Altoona.
