Wildcats Edged by Lycoming in OT

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Penn College fell in overtime to Lycoming College, 67-62, in a nonconference men's basketball game Saturday. The Wildcats dropped to 0-3, while the Warriors improved to 3-2.
 
How it happened: Penn College held a seven point, 58-51, lead on Jesse White's layup with 4:12 left in the second half but only managed one more point in the final four minutes of the half. Lycoming responded from the deficit with an 8-1 run in the final four minutes to even the game at 59-59 with 17 seconds left on the clock. The Wildcats turned the ball over on the ensuing possession to send the contest to overtime.
 
The Warriors took a 61-59 lead midway through overtime before White's layup, and a Gavin Barrett free throw, gave Penn College its final lead, 62-61, with 1:52 left in the game. The Wildcats turned the ball over on their next three possessions, while Lycoming scored at least one point on its next three possessions to ice the game.
 
Trailing 5-0 to begin the contest, the Wildcats responded with a 15-0 scoring run to take its largest lead of game, 15-5, after a pair of Obens Luxama free throws with 12:26 left in the first half. Lycoming got as close as one, 21-20, with 6:25 on the clock but Penn College answered with a 6-0 spurt to take a 27-20 advantage on White's layup with 3:50 left in the opening half. Chris Coyne's three with 1:23 left put PCT ahead 32-25 before Lycoming closed out the half with a 4-0 run but trailed 32-29 at the break.
 
Inside the box: White led Penn College with 13 points, on 5 of 7 from the field and 3 of 5 from the line. Barrett finished 12 points and a game-high six assists and Max Jackowsky added 10 points for the Wildcats.
 
Steven Hamilton scored a game-high 15 points for Lycoming, while Matt Illodigwe, DeAundre Manuel, and Brendon Blackson all finished with 11.
