WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. — Playing its most complete game of the season, Penn College raced to a 23-point, 45-22 lead at the intermission on Friday in its United East Conference opener against Gallaudet University en route to a 75-50 victory. Penn College improved to 1-0 in the conference and 1-5 overall while Gallaudet dropped to 0-1 UEC and 0-6 overall.
How it happened: Penn College started the game with a 3-point goal by
Chris Coyne and ended the first half with a 3-point goal by
Christian Chandler as time expired. In between, the Wildcats held leads of 13-2, on a layup by
Jesse White at the 15:02-minute mark, and 22-4, on a 3-pointer by
Corey Blackwell at the 11:47 mark. During the half, Penn College hit of 17 of 36 shots from the field, including 8 of 17 from the 3-point line, and held a 26-13 advantage in rebounds, with 18 coming on the defensive end.
In the second half, the Wildcats stretched their lead to 33 points, 64-31, on a foul shot by Blackwell with 7:52 left, and led by double figures the rest of the way. Penn College won the war on the boards, 43-23, (31 on defense) and outscored Gallaudet in the paint, 32-16.
Inside the box: Will Sulesky led Penn College with 14 points and 11 rebounds (10 defensive), while Blackwell and
Max Jackowsky each scored 10 points.
Gavin Barrett dished out six assists.
Rory Lewis topped Gallaudet with nine points.
