WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Penn College outscored Gallaudet, 22-11, in the final quarter to secure its first win of the season with a 68-61 victory in a United East women's basketball game Friday. The Wildcats improved to 1-0 United East, 1-5 overall, while the Bison fell to 0-1, 1-4.
How it happened: Trailing by four to start the final quarter, Penn College opened the fourth with a 14-4 run to take a 60-54 advantage on a
Cassi Kuhns free throw with 4:43 left in the game. The Bison made it a two-point game a minute later before the Wildcats answered with a 10-0 spurt to go ahead 68-58, following a pair of
Rachel Teats free throws, with 19 seconds left in the game.
After three ties in the first quarter, Penn College separated from a 14-14 deadlock with 3:18 left in the first with a 7-4 run to end the opener ahead 21-18. The game was tied two more times in the opening two minutes of the second quarter before the Bison responded from a 24-24 tie with a 10-6 run to lead 34-30 at halftime.
The game was tied four more times in the third until Gallaudet responded to a 46-46 stalemate with 1:23 left with four-straight to end the quarter ahead 50-46.
Inside the box: Teats finished with a game-high 20 points for Penn College,
Aubrey Stetts finished with 14, and
Kayleigh Miller added 10.
Ja'Quela Dyer grabbed a team-high nine rebounds for the Wildcats.
Hannah Puent (14 points, 11 rebounds) and Cassidy Perry (13, 11) both recorded double-doubles for Gallaudet.
