WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Penn College improved to 7-1 after a sweep over Lancaster Bible College in a North Eastern Athletic Conference softball doubleheader Saturday. The Wildcats took the first game, 11-2, in five innings and used a walk-off to win 5-4 in the nightcap.
In game one,
How it Happened: After LBC took an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning, before Penn College regained the lead in the bottom of the frame with three runs.
Margaret Mangene brought in a run with single to right before
Jaylynn Cochran plated a pair of runs on a single to center to give the Wildcats a 3-1 lead.
The Chargers got their final run in the third before the Wildcats exploded for seven in the fourth inning.
Ivvy Morder brought in two runs on a double to center,
Olivia Hemstock had an RBI on separate at-bats, while
Lesley Fritz and
Madison Shaffer each had an RBI.
Inside the Box: Hemstock and Fritz each picked up three hits for the Wildcats, while
Jordan Specht, Cochran, and Shaffer each had a pair of hits.
Kyla Benner improved to 4-0 with a complete-game outing. She scattered four hits, allowed two runs, struck out six and walked no batters.
In game two,
How it Happened: Specht's walk-off RBI single to right plated Hemstock and broke a 4-4 deadlock to secure the victory for Penn College.
The Chargers jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first before the Wildcats evened the contest in the bottom of the frame. Hemstock knocked in a run with a single before Mangene's sacrifice fly to right tied the game at 2-2. Fritz brought in Specht and Mangene with a single to left in the third to give PCT a 4-2 lead before LBC took advantage of two errors in the seventh to tie the game.
Inside the Box: Hemstock totaled three hits for the Wildcats and Specht finished with a pair.
Kassidy Svenson fired a complete-game and improved to 3-1 this season. She allowed four runs (just one earned) on seven hits, with four strikeouts and one walk.
