PITTSBURGH, Pa. – Penn College dealt La Roche College a 16-8 setback in a North Eastern Athletic Conference men's lacrosse game Sunday. The Wildcats earned their first-ever win as a NCAA program and improved to 1-1, while the Red Hawks fell to 1-2.
How it Happened: Penn College jumped out to a 3-0 with consecutive scores by
Danny Harkins and one was from
James Conway – with
Garrett Corso assisting the latter two scores – before the Hawks went back-to-back to cut into the Wildcats' lead, 3-2, at the end of the first quarter.
Penn College found the back of the net four times in second quarter to take 7-2 halftime lead.
Graham Purdy and Corso twitched twine to start the onslaught before
Daniel Jackson netted a pair of shots to end the half for Penn College.
The Wildcats pumped in nine scores in the second half, led by four from
Quinn Caviola.
Inside the Box: Caviola led Penn College with six point on four goals and two assists, whiel Jackson finished with three scores and a pair of helpers.
The Wildcats outshot the Hawks 40-35 and forced 32 turnovers, while La Roche held a 21-6 advantage in faceoffs.
Andrew Gobbi picked up the win between the pipes with 12 saves.
