MIDDLETOWN, Pa. – Penn College dropped a pair of North Eastern Athletic Conference games on the road at Penn State Harrisburg on Thursday. They lost game one by a score of 6-1 and and game two 11-3. The Wildcats fall to 3-5 on the year while the Lions improved to 15-3.
In game one,
How it Happened: After falling behind 4-0 after two innings of play the Wildcats closed the lead to three when
Jacob Carles was able to reach first safely on an error by the Lions third baseman which allowed
Cameron Dick to score on the play. It was all the closer the Wildcats would get as PSU Harrisburg plated two runs in the bottom of the 3rd to make it a 6-1 game. The Lions pitching staff allowed just four hits on the day while striking out 10 Wildcats batters.
Inside the Box:
Justin Porter (1-1) took the loss after allowing eight hits, six runs (two earned) in four innings of work. Four of the runs scored against Porter were unearned as defensive miscues allowed the Lions to open up a lead that the Wildcats could not overcome.
Joe Fatzinger held the Lions offense in check allowing just one hit over two innings of work, while striking out three Lions. At the plate Dick finished with two hits and a run scored.
In game two,
How it Happened:
Connor Burke laced an RBI double in the top of the 3rd inning to make it a 1-1 game. PSU Harrisburg quickly regained the lead in the bottom half of the 3rd when they scored four runs on three hits. In the top of the 5th
Jake Wagner launched a two-run homerun to left to trim the Lions lead to 5-3. Once again PSU Harrisburg answered in their half of the inning at the plate as they put up a six spot in the bottom of the 5th to increase their lead to 11-3. Penn College was unable to muster up anymore offense in the game and finished with seven hits.
