READING, Pa. — Penn College women's tennis earned it's first victory of the 2021 season over Penn State Berks Saturday afternoon, 5-4, while the men's team fell 6-3. The women's tennis team improved to 1-1, while the men dropped to 0-2.
How it happened: The Penn College women's team won four of six singles matches and one of three doubles matches. The men's team was led by
Tucker Phillippe-Johansson and
Daniel Gianelle in singles and won one match in doubles.
Inside the box: Georgia Leitzel won at No. 3 singles for the Penn College women, 6-1, 6-3,
Amber Leitzel won 6-3, 6-1,
Marcie Harman won 6-3, 6-3 and
Cassie Shook won 6-3, 6-4. In women's doubles, Georgia Leitzel and
Amber Leitzel won at No. 2, 8-2. For the Penn College men, Phillippe-Johansson won at No. 1 singles, 6--1, 6-4, and Gianelle won at No. 6, 6-2, 6-0.
Tommy Cavanagh teamed with Gianelle to win No. 3 doubles, 8-4.
