AURORA, N.Y. – Penn College split a pair of one-run games against Wells College in a North Eastern Athletic Conference baseball doubleheader Sunday. The Wildcats (6-6) won game one 9-8 and dropped the nightcap 2-1 to the Express (10-11).
In game one
How it Happened:
Jake Wagner's double in the top of the ninth broke an 8-8 deadlock and Joey Fatzinger went 1-2-3 in the bottom of the ninth to close out the win for Penn College.
The Wildcats jumped out to a 6-0 lead with three runs in both the first and second innings.
Shane Price brought in three runs,
Keegan Nytz two, and
Jacob Carles plated another. Wells cut into the lead with four in the bottom of the second before an RBI by
Brittan Kittle in the fourth and error put PCT ahead 8-4. The Express tied the game with four runs in the bottom of the fourth.
Inside the Box: Price and Kittle both picked up three hits for Penn College, while Wagner, Carles, and
Tyler Rudolph added a pair of hits.
Hunter Jordan improved to 2-0 after pitching 2.1 innings. He allowed just one hit, struck out two and walked one. Fatzinger earned his first save with two strikeouts and no hits in one inning on the hill.
In game two
How it Happened: Kittle gave the Wildcats a 1-0 lead with an RBI single in the first before Wells tied the game in the third and scored the go-ahead run on a home run in the sixth.
Inside the Box: Kittle picked up two of Penn College's four hits.
Chance Webb fell to 0-2 after a complete-game. He allowed two earned, on four hits, with five strikeouts and three walks.
Up Next: Penn College returns to action Wednesday, 1 p.m., hosting Penn State Abington.
