WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. –
Justin Porter tossed a three-hitter in game one, while
Brittan Kittle went deep three times in the nightcap, to help Penn College sweep Lancaster Bible College in a North Eastern Athletic Conference baseball twinbill Wednesday. The Wildcats took game one, 2-0, and outslugged the Chargers in the second game, 13-8, to improve to 2-2. LBC fell to 4-2.
In game one,
How it Happened: Porter was perfect through 5.2 innings before allowing his first base hit. He entered the bottom of the fifth with a two-run cushion courtesy of
Brian Robison's two-run homer in the top of the frame that also brought
Samuel Zeigler, who led off with a single.
Inside the Box: Penn College totaled five hits from five different batters with singles from
Tyler Rudolph and
Keegan Nytz, and a double by
Jacob Carles.
Porter improved to 1-0 after six innings of work. He struck out eight, scattered three hits, and allowed no walks.
Joel Verrico earned the save with a one inning close. He allowed two hits and struck out one.
In game two,
How it Happened:
Jake Wagner's double and Kittle's solo home run in the fourth tied the game at 2-2 before LBC made it 5-2 with a homer in the fourth.
Jacob Carles slugged a grand slam in the fifth to get the Wildcats back on top, 6-5, and Wagner smacked a two-run triple in the sixth to make it 8-5.
Kittle belted his second round-tripper in the seventh, a two-run shot to left to give PCT a 10-5 advantage. The Chargers pulled within two, 10-8, in the eighth before Kittle struck again in the ninth with another two-run blast and
Cameron Dick followed with a solo shot.
Inside the Box: Penn College totaled 13 hits, including five doubles, one triple, and five home runs.
Christian Perna, Wagner and Kittle finished with three hits each and Carles added a pair.
The Wildcats pitching staff overcame six errors and allowed just two earned runs (six were unearned).
Hunter Jordan picked up the win after three innings on the rubber. He scattered three hits, allowed no runs, while striking out two and walking one.
Cole Culver got the start and went four innings. He gave up seven hits, allowed five runs (only two earned), struck out two and walked one.
Chance Webb and Rudolph tossed the final two innings.
