Middletown, Pa. – Penn College salvaged a split on the road Sunday afternoon at Penn State Harrisburg. Penn College won game one 5-1 and lost game two by the score of 8-5. The Wildcats improve to 13-3 overall/NEAC while the Nittany Lions see their record stand at 11-10-1 overall/NEAC.
In game one
How it Happened:
Margaret Mangene continued to stay hot from the plate as she started the Wildcats scoring with a two-RBI double to center in the top of the first.
Jaylynn Cochran knocked in the third run of the inning with a sac fly to left that scored
Ivvy Morder. In the top of the third
Madison Shaffer plated the Wildcats fourth run with an RBI single to center.
Olivia Hemstock knocked in the final run for the Wildcats in the top of the fourth with her own RBI single to center.
Inside the Box: The Wildcats pounded out 13 hits as a team. Hemstock led the way with three hits.
Maddie Hurst, Morder and Cochran all had multi-hit efforts from the plate.
Kyla Benner (7-1) earned her seventh win of the season. She allowed one run on five hits while striking out five in a complete game effort.
In game two
How it Happened: Penn College fell behind 7-1 after two innings of play. Trailing 8-2 in the top of fifth the Wildcats rallied for three runs to close the gap to 8-5. Unfortunately, that was all the closer the Wildcats would get as the Nittany Lions held on for the 8-5 win.
Inside the Box:
Margaret Mangene finished 2-for-4 from the plate with a single, double and one RBI. Hurst scored a pair of runs.
Kassidy Svenson (5-2) took the loss after allowing six runs (four earned) in 1.1 innings of work. Benner pitched 4.2 innings of relief work allowing two runs on four hits.
Up Next: Penn College returns to action Thursday when they travel to Wells College for their season finale series. First pitch is scheduled for 4 pm.
