WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. –
Cassie Johnson's penalty kick in the first half proved to be enough for Penn College as it held on for a 1-0 win over Keuka College in a non-conference women's soccer match Wednesday. The Wildcats improved to 1-0, while the Wolves fell to 0-2-1.
How it Happened: Penn College came out firing with three shots in the opening 20 minute before a foul just inside the box led to Johnson burying her PK to the bottom right to put the Wildcats ahead 1-0. Penn College put one more shot on frame in the first but Johnson's attempt was turned away in the 37
th minute, while
Taylor Gonzales kept the shutout intact with three stops the remainder of the half.
Gonzales stayed busy in the opening 20 minutes of the second half with five saves and ended the half with seven stops in the period. Keuka's defense held the Wildcats to zero shots in goal in the second.
Inside the Box: Keuka outshot Penn College, 16-7, and put 12 on goal, while the Wildcats held a 7-5 edge in corner kicks.
Gonzales improved to 1-0 with 12 saves.
