WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. — Hosting the Mid-Winter Classic at Liberty Arena on Saturday, the Penn College wrestling team went 1-3 with a win over Thaddeus Stevens, 48-6, and losses to Scranton, 37-12, Elizabethtown, 41-9, and Muhlenberg, 40-9, in its first action since Dec. 20 to drop to 3-6.
Individually for Penn College, Noah Hunt went 4-0 at 141 and 149 pounds with three falls and a win by forfeit, while Ryan Berstler was 3-1 with one fall at 125 and Colin Jens was 2-1 at 149 and 141.
Also for the Wildcats, Nick Semon at 157 and 149 and Gabe Kennedy-Citeroni at 197 and 285 both ended 1-2; T.J. Bodei at 133, Anton Easterbrook at 165 and 157, and Mason Saeler at 174, 157 and 165 all finished 1-3; Derek Kallenborn was 0-3 at 285 and 197; and Dylan Toback was 0-4 at 184.
Team-wise, New York University went 4-0; Centenary (N.J.) College was 3-1; Elizabethtown College, Muhlenberg, Rhode Island College and Scranton University all went 2-2; and Thaddeus Stevens was 0-4.
For Penn College against Thaddeus Stevens College:
The Wildcats used five forfeits and pins from Semon, Esterbrook and Saeler in its win.
Against Scranton University:
All of Penn College's points came on pins by Berstler and Hunt.
Against Elizabethtown College:
A pin by Hunt and decision win by Berstler accounted for the Wildcats' points as they forfeited in two weight classes.
Against Muhlenberg College:
Hunt secured his third win by fall for the day and Jens won a decision.
Coach speak: "I am really proud of the guys who competed today. We were a bit shorthanded but these guys battled all day knowing there was no plan B, no backups. We weighed in 10 guys and bumped around to fill the weights as best we could. These guys showed a lot of grit," coach Jamie Miller said.
